Strategy to Advance Sovereign AI in Vietnam
The AI4VN 2024 event brought together AI experts, scientists, and leading technology companies from Vietnam and abroad to discuss the latest trends in artificial intelligence. This year, FPT presented unique perspectives on Sovereign AI and infrastructure resources aimed at driving AI adoption to bolster Vietnam’s economic competitiveness. FPT representatives emphasized the importance of building an AI ecosystem grounded in Vietnamese data, thereby safeguarding national interests and creating tangible economic value.
Mr. Lê Hồng Việt, CEO of FPT Smart Cloud, delivered a keynote speech underscoring the significance of developing Sovereign AI in Vietnam. He stated:
“The current national competitiveness lies not in human resources alone, but in the synergy between humans and AI. A strategy promoting Sovereign AI will enhance national competitiveness by increasing labor productivity and automation. Sovereign AI also safeguards data and human resources, ensuring independence from the technologies of major economies and protecting Vietnam’s digital sovereignty.”

Acknowledging the opportunities and challenges AI presents, Mr. Việt highlighted FPT Smart Cloud’s focus on Sovereign AI through five key pillars: infrastructure, data, technology platforms, human resources, and business ecosystems. The $200 million partnership with NVIDIA to establish an AI Factory in March 2024 demonstrated FPT’s determination to develop independent infrastructure, master data, and advance AI research. FPT also inaugurated an AI Research Center in Quy Nhơn, employing over 5,000 staff members.
Dr. Trần Thế Trung, Deputy Director of AI Products at FPT Smart Cloud and Director of the FPT Research Institute, stated:
“Generative AI requires significantly greater computational infrastructure compared to traditional AI, posing a barrier for Vietnamese businesses. Generative AI could contribute $14 trillion to Vietnam’s digital economy by 2030. To maximize its benefits, both government and businesses need to address challenges such as building high-performance computational infrastructure, investing in semiconductor chip production, and formulating policies on electricity and energy costs, as well as strengthening telecommunications infrastructure.”
FPT AI Mentor Wins “Outstanding AI Solution” Award at AI Awards 2024
At the AI Awards 2024 ceremony held during the event, FPT Smart Cloud’s AI Mentor solution was honored with the “Outstanding AI Solution” award. Built on generative AI technology and leveraging Adaptive Micro-learning, FPT AI Mentor automates and personalizes employee training, improving workforce knowledge and capabilities. Currently, the solution serves over 20,000 regular learners monthly with a knowledge base of hundreds of thousands of questions in fields such as pharmaceutical retail, fashion, and electronics, enhancing consultation and sales performance by an average of 36%.
Additionally, FPT Software’s AI-powered programming support solution, CodeVista, ranked among the Top 5 “Outstanding AI Application Products.” Developed through intensive research, CodeVista integrates generative AI and specialized features to optimize programming tasks. This innovation significantly enhances productivity and saves time, showcasing FPT’s exceptional research and creative capabilities.
FPT Showcases Comprehensive AI Ecosystem for Businesses at AI4VN
At the AI4VN exhibition, FPT introduced a suite of generative AI solutions designed for businesses, aiming to revolutionize workforce productivity and organizational competitiveness. Attendees enthusiastically explored FPT AI Knowledge Explore, a knowledge management solution capable of consolidating data from diverse sources and enabling users to quickly access and act on enterprise information through natural, intuitive interactions. Other showcased solutions included CodeVista, a tool simplifying coding processes and improving programmer efficiency by 48%, and Usee, a no-code machine learning platform for data analysis. Applications of Usee span demand forecasting, risk prediction, inventory optimization, and AI-driven recommendations.
